Tuesday’s Thankfulness
The election returns have distracted me from making my list this evening, but I am so grateful for many things: The long line when I went to vote—how great it was to see the huge turnout! Son’s interest in the election and his opinions, which are well-thought-out and well-expressed. Leftover homemade soup for supper–easy meal and delicious! I walked on the treadmill today with only a little pain. Dee texted me to tell me she is feeling so much better today. YAY! Have you thought about your list or are you also distracted tonight?

It’s Monday and I’m grateful…
I’m such a blessed woman, I’m amazed that sometimes I don’t always see that as clearly as I should. Today, I’m thankful for: The little video Son and DIL sent me of Grandboy tasting his first solid food. It is delightful, even though Grandboy’s not at all sure he’s into the rice cereal. Spending a couple of hours with Dee—she’s in the hospital being re-hydrated and given nutrition to build her up. Another test today to see if the docs can figure out a way to make eating easier. This thing sucks, so bad, and yet her main concern today was getting out in time to be able to vote…

Counting My Blessings
It was a peaceful Sunday here at the lake, damn cold, but peaceful. So much to be grateful for tonight: All my dear lady friends at the lake, Moe, Har, Patt, and Bonnie The guys too always make me smile, Rich, Bill, Ron, and Glenn Got a bunch written today Skyping with little Grandboy last night–he just gets cuter and cuter! God’s hand of protection around Dee–she needs extra prayers right now as she struggles through a difficult time. Did you count your blessing today?

An Attitude of Gratitude
So, my friends and fellow writers, Mary Stella and Liz Flaherty are celebrating November by naming at least one something they’re grateful for each day. Wow, what a concept! We forget to be grateful every day. We know we’re blessed, that we enjoy untold abundance but we get busy and stressed and run out of time. Then we get whiny and grouchy and snap at our loved ones or even at the poor innocent cashier at the grocery who was never taught how to count back change. Life gets in the way of gratitude. I’ve been watching Liz post her thankfulness each day on Facebook—simple things, a lovely sunset, old…

Words, Words, Words
I am a word freak, a language maven, a…a vocabularist. Okay, so maybe vocabularist isn’t actually a real word, but it should be because it describes me to a T. Last week, my pal/fellow editor/writer, Mae, came up to the lake to spend part of my writing week with me. We wrote and talked and read and talked and ate and talked and drank wine and talked and…well, you get the picture. One thing Mae and I share is a love of words. We are both fascinated with language and how we use it, especially unusual or quirky terms. Yesterday, she sent me this note referencing something she’d read in…

A Shot of Inspiration…
I’m staying at the lake this week and my intention is to write. No more jotting down ideas on the backs of envelopes or making hurried notes across a scratch pad while I’m doing a quick laundry switch in between editing gigs. No more working out dialogues between my characters by talking into my little DVR while I’m throwing something into the crock pot before heading upstairs to work on someone else’s books. No more feeling deprived because my focus is on fixing other writer’s work instead of writing myself. I’ve worked my rather ample behind off all summer (although sadly, it’s still there–don’t you wish when we say we…

September Memos…
…yes, I know, I know! It’s already October…sheesh! Dear September, What happened? One minute it was Labor Day weekend and we were sitting around a giant bonfire and eating fried fish; the next I’m turning over the page on the calendar in the kitchen. How exactly did I lose almost 30 days? One of which, by the way, just happened to be my birthday! Confused and aging fast, Nan *** Dear DIL, Thanks so much for helping make the surprise for Son so very much fun. The look on his face when I showed up on your doorstep with a 38-pound box of LEGOs in my arms was priceless.…

Life Gets in the Way…
…thus, I’m behind on my blogging. I could give you the litany of things that are keeping me from my true love, writing—both blogs and novels, but that’s not very interesting. Instead, here’s a quick update on my darling friend, Dee. She’s waiting to hear from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Her oncologist had Mayo send all her test results down there. They’re famous for diagnosing sarcomas and he feels strongly that we need a second opinion before we start pouring chemistry into her. So, basically, we’re still waiting. But Dee is back to work and pretty much maintaining her sanity by taking it day by day. We went…
