Sunday Snippet: The March Memos Edition
It’s that time again, mes amis. March memos. March has been an incredibly busy month so far–finishing a book, starting a new one, editing gigs to do, April book events to prepare for, plus housework and laundry and keeping fit. Thus, I do have a few things I need to get off my chest.
WTAH? Twenty degrees and frost on the ground one day, eighty degrees the next? And what’s with all the rain? Oh, wait, it’s spring in the Midwest… of course each day is a new weather adventure, but FYI, I’m ready for real spring. Warm days, cool nights, sunshine… you know…
Confusingly,
Nan

And in that same vein…
Dear Wind,
Okay, okay, I know the whole March comes in like a lion thing is real, but oh my! I’ve walked against you at least twenty out of the thirty days so far now, and I’m ready for a break. Calm down…my heart can only take so much.
Breezily…or not,
Nan

Dear current Work in Revisions,
I know I’m taking you apart mercilessly and that all those gorgeous words are being tossed aside like so many seeds in the wind, but give me a break. Cooperate and come together. I promise we’ll both be very happy when I’m done and so will our readers, who are anxiously awaiting our next book.
Creatively,
Nan

Dear Grandboy,
What an incredible pleasure it is to be your grandmother. You are such a remarkable, smart, good-hearted kid. I love your busy brain, your delicious sense of humor, your creativity, your big heart, and your generous spirit. I know you will continue to light up my life and the world. I’m so proud of you.
Big love always,
Nanny

I know you’re all thrilled that spring is here and the gardens are greening, but bunnies, I really need you to stop eating my budding tulips and other tiny greens in my gardens. I’m looking forward to flowers and if you eat them, I won’t get all that lovely color next month. And all the little damn holes, squirrels? You can cut that digging crap out right now! You’re all cute as the dickens, but have a little respect, okay?
Scowlingly,
Nan

Dear (and I don’t really mean dear) Current Congress,
*Sigh* So it’s been nine weeks now. Could you please open your eyes to what is actually happening? Dump the muskrat, rein in the rest of the crew, and get our country back on track. Allowing this nonsense to continue is going to destroy our democracy that we’ve worked so hard to preserver for nearly 250 years. Literally millions of Americans are asking you to do your job, so… do your job. Be a congress and not a bunch of yes-people. We need you to step up and take charge here.
Frustratedly,
Nan

We’re coming!
With a Splash,
Nan
Gratitude for This Week: Time with my crit partners–so good to see them! We got half the firewood cut and stacked; I’m making progress on my revisions; time with Grandboy–always joyful; several days of sunshine–it was warming and invigorating.
Stay well, stay informed, choose kindness always, and most of all mes amis, stay grateful!

Ditto! Here’s to family and friends; less wind; and a stronger, saner legislative and judicial branch in April.

We may not be in the Midwest, but our weather has been pretty much the same here in NETN. Severe storms and tornaatos to night. We need the rain but heavy rains and stoms can stay away. We are still cleaning up from the damage of Helene. With the dryness, winds, and lots of downed trees, we are very worried about forest fires. I want and need to get into my gardens to clean them out and weed. Unfortunately there is so much else to do, I can’t seem to get to it. The insanity in DC is frightening. We can hope congress gets a pair, but I don’t see that happeing for most of them anytime soon. Our hope is in the courts, but that isn’t a certain thing. They don’t seem to be paying any attention to the court rulings. Something has to give. I just hope it isn’t our democracy.
Take care and enjoy the nice weather when you have it.
