Author Spotlight: Elsa Winckler Takes Us Back to Montana & Cowboys!

One of the great pleasures of being a Tule Publishing author is meeting so many wonderful authors. Elsa Winckler is one and I’m so delighted to have her with me today to tell us about her newest novel. I love the cover on this one and I can’t wait to read it! Oh, and be sure to check out her giveaway!

Elsa has been reading love stories for as long as she can remember and when she ‘met’ the classic authors like Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Henry James, the Brontë sisters, etc. during her Honors studies, she was hooked for life.

Although her three gown-up children rarely acknowledge the fact they have a romance-writing mom, her husband fortunately, is very proud of her, reads every word and is happy to make sure she gets the kissing scenes just right.

She likes the heroines in her stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong.  And the heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous.  Her stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who they are when we meet them in the story.

The floor is yours, Elsa…

Thank you, Nan, for the lovely opportunity to talk about the new series I’ve written for Tule Publishing Group called The Westons of Montana.

People who see and feel more than others, have always fascinated me – the poets, the dreamers, the animal whisperers, the empaths, the healers, those who see the world through different lenses and create magic wherever they go. I haven’t initially planned to include any of it, but some of these elements have somehow slipped into the stories.

We meet Hayden Weston, the oldest brother in the first of four stories, A family with the Cowboy. As the oldest brother, he feels responsibility for the ranch, his two brothers, his sister and his mother. Ranching is in his blood, he loves what he does and is determined to manage the farm in a responsible, sustainable way while trying to be a dad and a mom to his eight-year-old son, Luke after his wife passed away.

His son’s new teacher in Marietta is an unexpected challenge, though. Not only because he blames her when he finds his son reading a book instead of doing his chores, but also because of the immediate attraction he feels towards her.

With a sister who knows things and can read his mind, a brother who clearly has some kind of problem but who doesn’t discuss it with him and another one who talks to animals, he has enough trouble, he doesn’t need more complications.

His path keeps crossing with that of the blue-eyed teacher though, and staying away from her becomes more and more difficult with every meeting.

Will he be brave enough to give love another chance?

Giveaway: Elsa is giving away an e-book copy of My Montana Valentine, Book 1 in The Millers of Marietta series. Just tell her about your most memorable Valentine’s Day.

A Family with the Cowboy

Widowed rancher Hayden Weston knows what it means to be responsible for his siblings, his eight-year-old son, and the running of the huge family cattle ranch. Some even call him a stern and grumpy taskmaster and they’re not exactly wrong. So when Hayden discovers his son reading a storybook instead of doing chores, he calls on Luke’s teacher to talk about priorities.

School teacher Laura Anderson is new to Marietta, Montana, and has never—until now—been reprimanded for encouraging a child to read. It doesn’t help that sweet Luke’s father is the handsome cowboy with the amber eyes that she met in Grey’s Saloon, or that she’s wildly attracted to him.

Sparks keep flying as their paths keep crossing, but Hayden is determined not to give in to his incomprehensible need to have, hold, and protect Laura from any type of harm. He’s the one who’ll hurt her if he lets her stray too close. He’s not ready to admit his feelings or commit to sharing his life with her.

Even if love comes tumbling in.

I had just seen a high school friend after 7 years. I saw him while home for leave at Christmas after extending my Peace Corps tour for a third year. Back at my assogmment in the Philippines, my Philipino friends, single teachers like myself, wanted to know if I would get a card from him. I said no because cards were only sent by friends who were romanticly involved. Since I had only seen him for a couple of hours on 3 days, we certainly weren’t involved. Imagine my surprise when I got a Valentine card from him. Of course, I made the mistake of opening it in front of my friends. I took a lot of teasing from them. It was my first Valentine card since grade school and a suprise.

I have to admit that no one Valentine’s Day stands out. However, that’s for good reason. Every day is kinda like Valentine’s day with my hubby. No, he’s not overly romanticor anything, but he shows his love for me every day, even when we argue.

That would be a difficult situation for a teacher, wouldn’t it? Pleasing parents can be quite a challenge anyway, but being reprimanded for a kid reading? Wow. Lol.
