Author Spotlight: Celebrating E. Elizabeth Watson’s New Release!

It’s always fun to welcome E. Elizabeth Watson to the spotlight! As well as being a fellow Tule Publishing author, her Texas cowboy romances are a treat!

Elizabeth is convinced life is better with good coffee, chocolate, and a pair of hiking boots. Ever since her elementary school librarian “published” her epic childhood tales—complete with laminated handmade covers—she’s enjoyed exploring the world through literature. She fell in love with the harsh Texas desert where she found inspiration for charismatic cowboys and the stubborn women who tame them while documenting prehistoric rock art as a student at the University of Texas at Austin.

A recovering archaeologist and biomed research coordinator, Elizabeth spends her days penning heroes ranging from Scottish and Medieval warriors to Texas cowboys crowned with Stetsons. Whether in kilts or pearl-snaps, her heroes wear plaid! Known for her Ladies of Scotland series written for Entangled Publishing, as well as her HEA at USA TODAY recommended Christmas Wore Plaid, she’s excited to join Tule Publishing and introduce her debut contemporary western romance, Texas Rose, in 2022. She currently lives on a mountainside in West Virginia with her husband, sons, and various pets. Always honored to hear from readers, make sure to follow her on Facebook, Bookbub, Twitter, Goodreads, and Instagram.

Hi lovely readers! I’m popping into Nan’s blog today to tell you about my small town romance, Risking It for the Cowboy, releasing tomorrow! AND there’s a freebie at the end for everyone to go grab! I hope you enjoy my short Q&A below!

  1. What inspired me to write this story?

“When I wrote the last book in my Dixons of Legacy Ranch series, The Cowboy’s Texas Heart, I introduced a list of cousins, the maternal branch to the Dixon brothers’ family. One of the first cousins that we meet is T.R. He’s rough around the edges, has a bit of a mouth on him, but always good natured, joking, and just a livewire in general. He’s the frontman to a local band that has a lot of talent but hasn’t gone anywhere, and he does it for fun as a passion project and side hustle, with bigger dreams in mind.

It’s implied that he liked the best friend of that book’s main heroine. That he wanted her number, kept trying to flirt with her. So as I dug into my next cowboy, small town romance, Risking It for the Cowboy, I just knew this needed to be T.R.’s story! He was so fun to write, so much deeper than his superficial, playboy persona. And his heroine, Charlie, a single mom, this wallflower that he needed to draw out of her shell to help her realize the dreams she’d been sacrificing.

Their chemistry is off the charts, their banter, but their deep moments and the way they bond through music and through Charlie’s little girl, Daisy, are heartfelt.”

  1. What’s something interesting about this book?

“This book is actually also categorized as a rockstar romance trope. It’s country music—he’s a cowboy—but the trope includes a story like mine and I actually wrote music for this story! The songs they sing in the book are original lyrics that do have an original melody, written by yours truly. I’m not saying I’m winning any awards for my songwriting skills ha! But that’s a fun fact.”

  1. What’s my favorite scene in the book?

“I have a couple favorite scenes. Obviously I love the whole book, but poignant moments that I always think about are when T.R. truly connects with the daughter, Daisy, who has a learning disability, and the emotions and vulnerability T.R. feels when Daisy realizes, he does, too. The moment is sweet and emotional, where we see this first crack in T.R.’s playful, tough façade to a deeper pain beneath his surface.

The second might be the passion that explodes between T.R. and Charlie as we near the dark moment of the story, when Charlie’s dangerous ex takes things too far and T.R., desperate to get to her and barely holding in his pent-up fear, collides with Charlie and their intimate scene explodes. The way she trusts him, the way he needs to touch, to feel her safely protected, is filled with delicious desperation.
