Author Spotlight: Elsa Winckler’s Here with a New Hot Cowboy and Great Giveaway!

Know what’s really fun? Connecting with the other authors who write in Marietta, Montana–even when that author lives far away in South Africa! I’ve loved getting to know Elsa Winckler and she has graciously allowed me to let some of my Marietta characters meet up with hers! The friendship isreal even from continent to continent.

Elsa Winckler has been reading love stories for as long as she can remember and when she ‘met’ the classic authors like Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Henry James, the Brontë sisters, etc. during her Honors studies, she was hooked for life.

Although her three gown-up children rarely acknowledge the fact they have a romance-writing mom, her husband fortunately, is very proud of her, reads every word and is happy to make sure she gets the kissing scenes just right.

She likes the heroines in her stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong.  And the heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous.  Her stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who they are when we meet them in the story.

I loved writing Carson Weston, the main male character in the final story in the series about the Westons of Montana, The Cowboy’s Forever Promise.

Of course, he’s gorgeous but like his brother, Dylan whom we’ve met in Home to the Cowboy, his childhood has left a few scars on him as well. Getting married, having kids are not things he’ll even consider. He enjoys his life and couldn’t be bothered about always cleaning up after himself as he had to do as a kid, something his brother and cousins tease him mercilessly about.

He loves ranching and when he’s not working, he’s on his horse taking pictures of the breathtaking landscapes of Montana.

How would he react when he meets Abby Swanson, a professional organizer who is one her way from Seattle to Marietta to help her friend June Kincaid who has just gotten married to Carson’s brother Dylan? She’s all spreadsheets and long lists and never, ever colors outside the lines – his complete opposite.

What happens when they meet in a bar in a strange city when they’re both outside their comfort zone, wasn’t something I’ve planned, but I’ve learned along the way to listen to what the characters want.

I have to confess, though, I loved writing that particular scene so please let me know whether you’ve enjoyed the meet-cute as well. 🙂
