• Weekend Writing Warriors 8-Sentence Sunday

We’re here again—yay! Back in the apartment with a very frustrated and turned-on Julie. She’s trying to figure it all out… Sex had reared its frustrating little head again, and I hadn’t been so shocked about anything since the night Charlie dropped dead in my arms. Taking a deep breath, I poured some more wine into my glass and slugged it down. It never occurred to me that I’d desire anyone except my husband. I’d never wanted any man but Charlie, so when he died, I assumed I’d live my life as a widow and one day a grandmother, but never again as someone’s lover. When was the appropriate time…

It’s that time again! Time for another installment of 8-Sentence Sunday. This week, I’m continuing with the scene from Sex and the Widow Miles. Julie is finding her way in Chicago, making friends, volunteering at a battered women’s shelter, and also spending time with the handsome guy from across the hall, Will Brody. But she is still devoted her dead husband, which is creating quite a stumbling block for Will, who’s falling in love with her.  In this scene, they’re sharing supper and Julie’s amazed to find herself attracted to Will when she believed she’d belong to Charlie forever. Charlie was with me. I felt him near all the time.…

It’s that time again! Time for another 8-sentence snippet from one of my works in progress. I’ve given you several from Once More From the Top, so I’m switching back to Sex and the Widow Miles this week. Remember Jules and that sexy younger man? It’s been a couple of weeks since their kiss–the one that made Jules all hot and bothered and then cringe with embarrassment–she’s trying very hard to keep Will at arm’s length. He’s equally determined to get back into her good graces, however his technique is very subtle: I’d made it very clear that I couldn’t get involved with him, but he seemed content with simply…

  • Weekend Writing Warriors 8-Sentence Sunday #9

I’m deep into rewrites/revision on The Music Is You, so I’m sticking with another snippet from  Like Fine Wine this week. The revision work is hard, but satisfying when I reread what I’ve done and realize how far I’ve come in the past three years. My writing is maturing and I’m learning so much. In spite of how arduous it is to cut and cut and cut, and then rewrite and rewrite, I know that my stories are getting better with each pass, and that I’ll be proud to put them out there for everyone to read. So, to set the scene: Last week, we saw Will and Julie post-kiss…

  • I’m Back! Weekend Writing Warriors 8-Sentence Sunday #8

I missed last Sunday, but it was for a good cause. I was out visiting Son, DIL, and darling Grandboy. My treat for all the weeks of work I’ve been doing. So this week, you not only get a snippet from my current WIP, you also get pictures—Grandboy in all his overwhelming cuteness and even one with sister, PJ! After you read today’s snippet, scroll to the bottom of this post—you won’t be sorry! Last time in the snippet from Like Fine Wine, Julie was amazed to realize that her feminine emotions weren’t dead at all as Will misreads her expression and hugs her. But when he looks into her…
