Thanks, Nan for inviting me to be on the blog today. I’m really excited about my latest release How to Charm a Nerd.
It’s the second book in my WiCKed Sisters series set in the fictional small town of Birch Lake, Maine. The stories center around three friends and business partners in the shop WiCKed Sisters. Sera from The Bookbinder’s Guide to Love is a bookbinder who is famous for her manifesting journals that she inscribes an intention into. Poppy runs the tearoom is known for specialty blends. And Liberty the heroine of How to Charm a Nerd is a tarot card reader and all around witchy woman.
She’s a fierce friend who knows her own mind and doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind. She’s also totally into one of her business partners’ tall, skinny, nerdy cousin.
There are so many things that I love about Liberty. Her no-holds-barred attitude is a big one for sure. She’s committed to her sisters of the heart Sera and Poppy. Though she lives loudly she’s not afraid to admit when she’s unsure and when she needs someone else’s help.
When I first thought about this series I knew I wanted three good friends to be at the heart of it. Even if I never got to tell Liberty’s story she was integral to Sera’s story. The bonds of friendship are strong in my life and have been one of the things that keep me moving forward and achieving my goals.
It’s funny to think that Merle Rutland came onto the page just as a foil for Liberty. I love the bonds that my kids have with their cousins and how close they are. I wanted Poppy to have that with Merle but he sort of wrote himself onto the page when Liberty first mentioned him.
Poppy’s nerdy hot cousin. That was it Merle sort of sprung fully developed into my mind.
Wicked smart, tall, thin and sort of nonplussed by Liberty who flirts outrageously with him. So when I started to peel back the layers I wasn’t really surprised at how complex Merle is.
He’s confident and isn’t afraid to take what he wants. But he is also very loyal to his family and Poppy. So he can’t just hook up with Liberty and move on that’s not going to play well for the long term.
He’s willing to let her flirt with him and leave it at that until she comes to him asking for a favor. Once their dynamics change he sees an opening to get to know the woman who’s had his attention since the first time he met her.
I hope you’ll check out How to Charm a Nerd, which is full of all those cozy (but spicy!) autumn feels.
GIVEAWAY: I’m giving away autographed copies to both The Bookbinder’s Guide to Love and How to Charm a Nerd. To be entered to win just tell me what you love best about autumn. Nan will pick a winner at random on Saturday morning.
How to Charm a Nerd
She’s kind of a witch. He’s definitely a nerd. And this Halloween they’re letting their geek flags fly in this playful romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author Katherine Garbera.
Dungeons and dragons and nerds, oh my…
The spooky season is almost here, and occultist and tarot reader Liberty Wakefield is already feelin’ it. But ever since her sick nan muttered the name of Liberty’s mysterious biological father, nothing feels normal. Not her friends, her family, nor the quirky shop she runs with her besties. So maybe it’s time for Liberty to track down the father she’s never met. Of course, that means getting a little help from the sexy nerd she’s been not-so-secretly vibing since last summer…
Merle Rutland hasn’t met anyone like the vivacious, bubbly Liberty. Part of him wishes he was more like her—instead of hiding his geekery from his hyper-athletic family. The other part just wants to pull the curvy redhead close, steal a kiss and hope he doesn’t roll a critical fail.
Only, somewhere between Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, pumpkins and a few ridiculously hot sexy-times, Liberty and Merle discover their respective weirds might be a match. Yet as Halloween draws closer, it seems everyone has skeletons in the closet…and nothing spells disaster quite like being haunted by the past…

The books sound like fun reads. I love books that have some spiritual elements in them. For many years after I moved to California, I would always visit my family in Indy in the fall. I loved the cool, crisp mornings, the leaves changing to bright colorful hues, and eating all the warm comfort foods like chili.

I live in Florida so definitely the cooler weather. I also love baking pumpkin spice goodies. I also love Halloween, and my birthday is in October. Lots of reasons for why I love fall.

Your book sounds great, Katherine. Just my cup of tea. I read tarot cards, I love all things witchy and Maine is one of my favourite places.
Autumn is the season I like best so it would be difficult to pick what I like most about it. I enjoy the cool weather, the smell in the air, the changing colours of the leaves, and I really love Halloween. Our small town has a pumpkin fair, and weigh-off, too, in October so that’s lots of fun. The record for the largest pumpkin is over 2,200 pounds!
