Sunday Snippet: The Travelogue #1 Edition

We made it to California! Writer buddy and fellow Tule author, Carol Light and I are almost to our Tule Author Retreat. Carol flew from her home state to mine, where I joined her on a very crowded Southwest flight to Dallas. After a couple of hours hanging out in Dallas, we caught our flight to Burbank. Both flights were full, but honestly, no delays and everything went so smoothly. Tired, but happy, we got a Lyft to our hotel and settled in. Since we didn’t have a car and the hotel is in rather an industrial part of Burbank, we opted for supper at the hotel restaurant and were pleased we did–great salad with grilled salmon! The time change wore on us both and we ended up doing lights-out at about 9:30 PST, which to our bodies was actually midnight-thirty.

This morning, we’re still feeling the effects of the time zone difference, but we’re having such a good time getting to know one another better that waking up at 5:30 a.m. was simply another opportunity to talk and talk. Breakfast the hotel was…well.. meh, but it was food and the view from our room of the Verdugo Mountains is impressive.

Pretty soon we’ll go down to check out and Lyft to the train station. We’re on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner down to San Juan Capistrano and I’m totally jacked. I’ve never ridden on a train in the U.S. before, only in France. Can’t wait! Advice from a friend is to sit on the west side of the train…I hope I can figure out west vs. east. Hmmmm… maybe we’ll ask.

We are both so very thrilled to be doing this and doing it together makes it even better. Tule has so many fun things planned for us–workshops, round tables, writing sessions, and play time in what appears to be a perfectly charming little town. So, hope you’ll come along with us this week…I’m hoping to blog each night and have it up for you the next morning. Hold a good thought that I can be so faithful.

Gratitude for today: We had safe and timely travel to CA. Grandboy came home from camp full of stories–can’t wait to hear all about it. Good week at the lake–lots of swimming with Moe, which is always the best time ever. My editor texted to let me know she’s started on Jack and Maddie’s book–gratitude for that but also a huge knot in my stomach as always. I’m having such fun getting to know Carol–I think she is a true kindred spirit.

Stay well, stay safe, be kind, and this week, mes amies, stay tuned!!

Enjoy every minute. Going south, west should be the right side. I have taken the train to LA many times. Can’t wait to read of your adventures.

    Nan,

Your friend told you correctly. There is usually a good view side, and a less good view side. I’m not sure where your tracks are in relation to the ocean, but the west side right! Please give my best to my friends!

    From your #1 river fan…
