Sunday Snippet: The Five Fun Facts Edition
Okay, right off, I confess I’m truly down-to-my socks tired. Between book release promotion and heading to THE END on Book 3 in the Juniper Falls Ranch series, and working on editing gigs, my brain is basically mush today. Sometimes, that happens on Sundays–whatever intellect I have left goes into hiding and even remembering how to use my new coffeemaker is a reason to stop and pause. (I remembered and I now have coffee–yay!) When that brain drain happens on a Sunday morning, how am I supposed to produce a snippet?
I go to an old standby that pal Liz and I resort to in moments of I got nothin’. We make a list. So here we go. A couple of lists for you.
Five Fast Facts About Me
- At this point in my life, I have no idea what my real hair color is and absolutely no curiosity about that.
- I’m practicing getting up without clutching a table edge or sofa or chair–so far, well, let’s just say I’m still practicing.
- Every time it snows, I open the front and breath in the scent of the snow and crisp air.
I bought red cowboy boots recently. I’ve always wanted red shoes and I do miss my cowboy boots from my riding days, so two birds, one stone. If the thought of a 72-year-old woman in jeans and red cowboy boots offends you, don’t look down.- I have a passion for coffee exceeded only by my passion for Husband. I grind beans every morning and savor the whole coffeemaking ritual. I’ve been accused of being a coffee snob. All I can say is that my coffee ritual brings me joy.

Five Things I’m Watching/Reading/Listening To
- At least three or four days a week, I pause to watch the sunrise and the sunset–I love seeing the sky change color. It gives me hope.
- On Saturday mornings, Husband and I watch the Coffee Klatch with Robert Reich and Heather Lofthouse on YouTube. A new Klatch each week brings us information and thoughtful analysis about the state of our nation–it’s not always uplifting, but at the end, Robert always has a hopeful message. In that same vein, I listen to Heather Cox Richardson’s column every day on Substack.
- We’re currently rewatching the PBS series All Creatures Great and Small. We’re in season 3. We keep trying to watch other stuff, but we need the gentle ease of James Herriot and his stories.
Currently, I’m reading Megan Crane‘s The Cowboy’s Least Likely Bride to review. Nobody writes angst and attraction like Crane. She’s amazing! Check it out.- Listening? I live on Pandora and mostly go between the Linda Ronstadt channel, the Frank Sinatra channel, and the Great American Songbook channel, but I’m pretty open and listen to music according to my mood.
Well, that’s it, mes amis. Now you know what a writer does when she can’t think of what to say in her weekly column. Why not share a quick fact about you or what you’re reading, watching, or listening to in the comments below. On Monday afternoon, For fun, I’ll send an e-book copy of The Cowboy’s Comeback to a couple of randomly chosen commenters. Let’s talk!
Gratitude for This Week: I finally went outside on Friday–it was lovely to feel sunshine on my face even though it was only 18 degrees. I’m preparing for a book signing at Twisted Sisters in Indy–can’t wait! Talked to my old neighbor for an hour–it was great to catch up. Got to FT with Son–I’ve missed his face. WIP is nearly at THE END–hold a good thought.
Stay well, speak out when you can–it’s essential if we want to save our democracy, always choose kindness, and most of all mes amis, stay grateful!

So glad to find another All Creatures fan. I found the books shortly after they came out. My husband was in the Air Force and would be gone weeks or months at a time. We had two young daughters (15 months apart. Happens when you are apart for 3 to 6 months at a time) and I was active in the community. Those books were such soothing, wonderful reads. We loved the original PBS series and never missed a show. When they announced a new series, I was concerned it would disappoint. It did not. We are really enjoying it. My husband’s grandparents came over from Yorkshire. We are hoping to get there this coming Fall. We will definitely be searching out the All Creatures locale. Hopefully, this trip won’t have to be canceled.
Wear those red boot with pride. There is no reason a women of our age can’t wear them. Age is relative. Think young and stay young……..even if our bodies dont always cooperate. I just had issues with one knee and was informed the other one needs to be replaced. Can I get up without grabbing the sofa or table? No, but I am working on it. Surgery would mess up planned trip mentioned above. My cane is a constant companion.
I am reading The Cowboy’s Comeback. Sorry, I was supposed to be done by now. Megan’s book sounds good from the blurb. Matilda and I have a few things in common. Your recommendation means alot. I used to read at least 2 books a week. Now I am lucky to read my monthly book club selection in time for meetings. As a result, my TBR mountain and Wish List keep growing.
Enough rambling. I hope you are staying safe and warm. I am enjoying being snowed in with the wood stove keeping things toasty. Stay safe and warm.

I think the red boots are awesome! You may just start a new trend. You never know! I recently went to my local Lowes store to purchase some jigsaw puzzles that were on sale. I wanted the 1,000 piece puzzle of different colored cowboy boots. They were sold out of that one. I was on my hands and knees in the middle of the asile digging through them all. Other shoppers probably thought I was some crazy old woman but I didn’t care. Haha!
I have learned to like audiobooks. I am not a fan of change so it took me a while to try them. I enjoy them very much now.
It’s 20 degrees and windy here in the south but I’m a little salty that we didn’t get any snow. I loved the snow that we got last year. I’m hoping it will snow here before the end of winter.
Nan
Hey, Margie, thanks for coming by! Sorry you didn’t find your puzzle. And golly, I’d be happy to send a few tons of snow–we have plenty to share!

Nan
That’s a lot of snow. We got 10 and I was feeling snowed in! Glad you enjoying a Montana book!
Nan
I will give that one a try, Kathleen, thanks for the tip!

I love this. I will be 71 this month and would wear red boots if they fit me well.
Nan
I will say my red boots fit okay. I may need to break them by wearing them around the house with jammies! It’s a look, baby!

I’m currently on a cruise and figured my free time would alternate between reading and writing. I just discovered I did not pack my laptop charger! It seems to be a sign that I’m supposed to be doing more reading than writing!
Stephaniie Ludwig
I say wear the boots! Red is a great color.
Nan
Red is a great color! I’m wearing the boots, Stephanie!
Nan
I think that’s definitely a message from the universe! Read, read!!
Linda Broday
Red boots!! I love it, Nan. You’ll look fabulous in them. They’re really beautiful. I started Book 3 of my McIntyre series too. This will wind up my series as well. I know your story will be as great and heartfelt as the other two. Wishing you tons of success with The Cowboy’s Comeback!
Nan
Thank you a ton, Linda! I have one more after this one, so 4 books in all. Then we’ll see where I go from there. I’d love to stay in Marietta.

Current read: Melissa McClone’s Holiday Letters From Hood Hamlet
Music suggestion: The Wilder Flower Music… They’re three young ladies from the Carolina mountains. A cross of bluegrass and Americana(Folk). All three are award winning musicians. One member is a current Rhodes scholar, and successfully thru hiked the 2200 mile Appalachian Trail post high school.
Weather: Hey! It’s warming up today! 20F Total shutdown… everything smothered by snow and ice. Everyone take care, stay safe.
Nan
William! Hi! We’ve missed you! How are you? I’m going to check out your music suggestion–sounds lovely. We are warming up here too, but not enough to melt the snow. Sigh.
Julie Syers
I love the smell of crisp cold air, too!! I am currently reading The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. It has really helped me with some prom drama with a couple moms of my son’s friends.
Nan
Prom drama, Julie? Okay, I’m intrigued…

You truly are an inspiration to many. I feel honored to actually know you. I absolutely love to read, but sometimes love stories are to tough for me. Romance hasn’t been in my world for a few years. Still looking, not connecting
I will always promote your books, because once you start reading, you can’t put the book down
Most of all, thank you for the audio version. It’s so much easier for me to read, listen, while walking.
Nan
Oh, Camille, you are so good for me, dear friend! I hope more of my Montana books will go to audio! Keep your fingers crossed! Hugs, sweetie!
