Sunday Snippet: The Dog Days of Summer Edition
I think we are currently in the dog days—the hot, sultry days of late summer. I looked up why we called them the dog days, and the reason is kinda interesting. Per Google: “The dog days of summer refer to the hottest, most sultry weeks of the summer, usually running from early July to mid-August. People call them this because the ancient Romans blamed this hot weather on the star Sirius, known as the “Dog Star,” which rises and sets with the sun during this time.” Whatever you call these mid-to-late days of August, it has certainly been sultry and hot here in the Midwest. The windows on our house…

Sunday Snippet: The Nan and Min’s Big Day Edition
Yup, yesterday was a big day. I participated in the Indy Author Event for the first time. It was quite a day of meeting new authors and new readers, and catching up with long-time friends who are authors and readers. As a participating author, I had two tickets to give away, so way back last fall, I’d gifted them to a couple of readers at a book club. I was delighted when Marcia and Sue appeared at my table to say hello, grab a quick hug, and buy books. I had my booth babe, Min, with me and she kept me organized and on track, restocking book stacks, taking…

Author Spotlight: C’est Moi with a Cover Reveal!
I know, I know… you are about to experience shameless self-promotion here, but ya know, it’s my blog, so I’m going to crow a little bit. Tule Publishing just sent me the cover for book 4 in the Juniper Falls Ranch series, The Rancher’s Christmas Wife. I confess I love this story of reunion and redemption. We don’t have an official blurb yet, but I’ll tell you that the hero is Levi Mitchell, whose Two Hawks ranch backs up to Juniper Falls Ranch and they are friends as well as neighbors. The heroine of The Rancher’s Christmas Wife is his ex-wife, glass artist Zoey Eaton, who comes back to Montana…

Sunday Snippet: The July Memories Edition
It’s been a weird week for me–full of joy and nostalgia and even a little bit of sad. We got to spend some extra time with Son and Grandboy up at the lake since they stayed past the weekend (sadly DIL had to split to get back to work). Both Son and I worked, of course, because that’s how we roll even at the lake, but after work, we swam and shared suppers and just enjoyed each other’s company. On Wednesday, Son and I swam for over an hour, just the two of us (Grandboy was developing a damn summer cold, so he stayed in their cottage), and that was…

Sunday Snippet: The In Between Edition
Good Sunday morning, mes amis. It’s a gorgeous day here at the lake. Grandboy is sleeping in my guest room, Husband is out on the deck basking in the morning sun with a cup of coffee, and I’m here in my lake “office.” (Read bedroom with a card table and wooden chair.) We had a lovely evening with Grandboy while his parents went out to celebrate their 24th (!!) anniversary. He regaled us with tales of Scout camp shenanigans and told us about the badges he earned. The kid is interested in everything and just a fun storyteller. We love every moment with him. He’s already claimed his spot on…

Sunday Snippet: The Yup, Nan’s Got Nothin’ Again Edition
Yeah, again, I’ve got nothin’ this morning. Life has been a little bit overwhelming this week as I’ve tried to decompress from RAGT26. We headed to the lake, which always helps because life seems less burdensome here, but I still have to write and work on editing gigs no matter where I open my laptop. So, I’m writing like a fiend trying to finish this book by deadline, as well as editing like crazy on two projects. Writer bestie Liz says when you have nothing, make a list. I thought about a list, but then I remembered that I have a list–“A Year of Journal Prompts.” Why wouldn’t that work…

Sunday Snippet: The Pink Primroses, Daisies, and a Real Snippet Edition
When Husband and I got home from a week at the lake yesterday, we both sucked in a breath of awe–our primroses and daisies are blooming! The front gardens look glorious and lush with flowers and ferns and hostas–we are a festival of color and greenery! Take a look! I am not, as I have told you on more than one occasion, a gardener. I don’t like yardwork, I find weeding tedious and annoying, and watering and trimming a wicked necessity. But wow, doing the work is so worth the effort! My gardens are nothing compared to my lovely neighbors who work in theirs every day and their work…

Sunday Snippet: The And We’re Off… Edition
Liz and I are headed out this morning for our twice yearly writing retreat. She’s allergy sniffly, I’m at the end of a wicked sinus infection that still shows up as a headache now and again. We should be delightful company for one another. Fortunately, we’re both pretty hardy souls and we’ll make it just fine. Retreats are our time for writing, processing out loud, sharing story, and giving opinions. I can count on Liz to tell me if something is going to work or if I’ve gotten completely off-track. I do the same for her. It’s our sister-writer time and we’re pretty protective of it. This spring we’re going…

Sunday Snippet: The Good-Hearted Woman (A Heart Update) Edition
Glenda, you are my winner! I’ll contact you for your email to send your ebook to you. Hugs to all who stopped by and wished me and my heart well. I soooo appreciate you! A good-hearted woman. That would be me, mes amies … well, sort of. I had an appointment with my cardiologist on Monday last week. The first one in a year because I had been doing well and the every-three-months checkups seemed excessive. This time, though, I had some concerns—I’ve been more tired than usual, I’m getting breathless again when I walk with the ladies, and my blood pressure is consistently in the hypotension (low blood pressure)…

Sunday Snippet: The Another THE END & a Cover Reveal Edition
What a wonderful feeling to be able to type “The End” at the finish line of a long arduous writing experience. I have another novel done—really, truly done! And my critique partners are on-board, one even said, “I love this story!” That is high praise indeed from a person whose writing I’ve admired for years. Help Wanted, Cowboy is out to betas right now, and I’ve been going through it in preparation for sending it to my editor next week. Since I got to THE END, how about I do a cover reveal for this book? The amazing Lee Hyat has given me another wonderful cover for Help Wanted Cowboy,…
