Today, It’s All About the Awesome…
…that is being a new grandparent. Our grandson, the little jumping bean, arrived in the world last night to the strains of the Rolling Stones’ Street Fighting Man, the song Son tells me was playing on the iPod as the kid was born. I’m going to hope this is a premonition of his ability to handle himself in tough situations—let’s go with that. Anyway, in spite of being almost two weeks early, he’s healthy and strong. DIL was incredible, delivering him in 11.25 hours without any pain meds. How impressive is that? She’s my new hero. Son is still in awe—there was no way his dad could tell him what an amazing experience it is to see your child be born. It’s just something you have to discover on your own. The three-hour time difference made for a late night for Nanny and Pops, but we were too excited to sleep anyway. Then after Son called with the announcement, we couldn’t even imagine sleeping—we were too busy staring at photos on my ‘Droid and checking Facebook and email for new pictures until about 4:30 am. Finally slept a little and then gave it up and rose to start the first day of grandparentness. I imagine a nap is in my future…
All in all, our little bean is gorgeous and perfect and wondrous, so my post today is simple and to the point and illustrated because that’s how we Nanny’s roll. My new grandson—a true miracle.
