Thanks to Nan for allowing me to visit today and talk about my new CONTEMPORARY trilogy set in Whiskey River, TX, THE MCALLISTER BROTHERS—and do a giveaway!
After writing 35+ historical romances, why did I decide to write a contemporary series? The plot for The Rancher has been in my head almost since I began writing, but the inspiration for it is—historical! My husband’s family was one of the first three families who settled in Morris County, TX, in the 1850’s. Descendants of that family have run the ranch for 160 years, with one of my husband’s first cousins running it today. Over the years, the family built three different homes, planted corn, raised cattle and chickens, introduced yams to the East Texas market, operated a blacksmith and wagon shop, and stayed true to the values of faith, family and hard work. So when I thought of a story where an owner struggles to regain family land they were forced to sell, the quality and characteristics of the Justiss family became those of my heroes, Duncan, Grant, and Brice McAllister.
Duncan’s story, The Rancher, came out last month. Out now is brother Grant’s story, The Cowboy.
Giveaway!!
What do you like most about cowboy heroes—the Stetson, the tight jeans, the boots, the swagger? Leave a comment for a chance to win an e-book or print copy of The Cowboy! We will choose a name at random at noon on Friday, May 21. Good luck!
He’s not looking for anything serious…
When his older brother asks him to move back to Whiskey River to help run the family ranch, former Marine Grant McAllister feels he must agree. After spending two years recovering from battle injuries, coming home finally feels right. Relishing being back on the land, Grant decides to refurbish the family’s old hunting cabin as his new home. When the artisan designer he hires turns out to be a lovely, intriguing lady, he hopes to mix business with a little pleasure.
She needs to remain uninvolved…
After the death of her Marine husband, a pregnant Abby Rogers moved to Whiskey River to be closer to her husband’s family and escape her controlling mother. Reinventing herself as a designer, she now focuses on her business and mothering her young daughter. She has no time for relationships—no matter how tempting she finds her handsome new client. But when her wealthy mother threatens to sue for custody of her daughter, Grant’s shocking offer forces her to listen to her heart.

Second-chance-at-love is one of my favorite stories. It’s so satisfying to watch characters who have been wounded find the courage to get past old hurts and lingering fears and find happiness again.
