Sunday Snippet: The July 4th Edition
I considered writing a long post about July 4 and what it means to be a true patriot right now, but someone else already did that. So go here and read Robert Reich’s message about what it means to be a patriot. I’ll wait.
You’re back! Wasn’t that a terrific post by Professor Reich? I really have nothing to add this holiday weekend.
I’m simply going to share this photo from July 4 a few years ago–Son and Grandboy celebrating America’s independence at the lake exactly the way Husband and Son did more years ago than I care to mention. I love our lake life together and how much Son wants to share that world with his son.
One of the blessed freedoms we have is to be able to share our history and our traditions with new generations of Americans. May we hold this vision of America–the land of the democracy, the rule of law, and decency close in our minds and hearts. Don’t give up hope! We will get through this time–we are a resilient nation and we’ve survived hard times before. Keep the faith, mes amis!
Happy Fourth of July, everyone! It’s different this year, perhaps more bittersweet than before, but the spirit , that great love of country that we all share remains the same.
Stay safe, stay well, always choose kindness, and most of all, mes amis, stay grateful,

Happy Birthday to our country. As we know if we’ve lived long enough, not all birthdays are happy or celebratory. Some of them are just times we have to get through. So is July of 2025. But our flag is still our flag–long may she wave–and the Constitution still lives.

You’re right about Reich’s message. And I like that he reminds us about hope. Thanks for sharing.
