Sunday Snippet: Those Lazy, Hazy, Not-so-Crazy Days Edition

We’ve been up here at the lake for a few days and I’ve been unnaturally lazy. Not inspired, not motivated, not anything really. I’ve been swimming and working as I always do up here, because as I’ve said repeatedly, I just pack up my act and take it on the road when we come up to the lake. (Thank heaven for laptops!). But no stirring of ambition that’s making me want to jump up and down.

And maybe that’s okay. Do we always have to be fired up? At my age, constantly being “on” feels exhausting, and I have to psych myself up for “on” times. (I have one coming up next weekend…ack!)

My meditations last week were focused on easing my life, on letting my body relax, and unclenching. As I was in the practice each day, I realized that I am literally clenched up. I didn’t know it. Opening my fists, releasing the tension in my shoulders, stretching my fingers and toes–all that felt… odd. But I learned how to do it, and I’ve been practicing it each morning this week.

I’m also giving not working so much on the weekends a try. Husband will tell you that I work every single day. I do. I get up and write each morning, then I do some household stuff, and then I work on editing gigs until time for supper with laundry, dusting, and weeding, etc. tossed in when I take a break from my office for a few minutes. Don’t feel too sorry for me–in the city, I walk with my neighbors on an almost daily basis. I just started riding my bike, too, and here at the lake, Mo and I swim every afternoon we can, so I’m not glued to my laptop. but writing and work are unquestionably my priorities.

Yesterday, though, I slowed down. It rained pretty much all day yesterday and our day was this: I wrote, we ate breakfast, and then I did a little bit of blogging work that was due. Then we watched Robert Reich’s Saturday morning Coffee Klatch together on the iPad. I posted to the Tule Book Club Christmas in July Party (so much fun!) and then we took the recycling to the bins on the other side of the lake. After we came home, I sat on my new sofa and read for pleasure and dozed. As evening came ’round, we made pizzas and had them for supper with a really tasty granacha from Spain. After supper, I sat on the sofa and again, read for pleasure and dozed. Around 10:30, Husband woke me up and we went to bed… It was a good day.

So far today, I’ve written some words, scanned FB and my email, changed the sheets on the bed, put in a load of wash, eaten eggs for breakfast, and helped Husband change the light bulb above the kitchen sink. Right now, I’m writing this blog. The sun is trying to peek through the clouds and I’m seriously thinking about seeing if Mo wants to swim later this afternoon.

The point of all this oversharing is that I know how to chill. I just have to believe in my heart that it’s okay. Not every moment has to be productive. Some moments can just be, well, lazy and hazy and slow. Isn’t that a kind of productivity, too?

Gratitude for This Week: Fishers Resists Hoosier Hospitality march was a huge success; swimming in the lake has been grand; the surprise lilies are up–Surprise! I’m pretty much ready for the Indy Author Event next weekend (booth babe, Min, will be with me, yay!); Good start on book 1 in the new series after a great work day with Liz!

Stay well, keep speaking out–we have a voice and we must use it! Always choose kindness, and most of all, mes amis, stay grateful!
