Are you a why or a why not person?
When my kids were young and asked to do something, my first reaction was to check if there was a reason to say no. Otherwise, I’d default to yes. That tendency’s led to adventures in my life.
I was born and raised in a small town in Eastern Ontario. When I was offered a job in Winnipeg, Manitoba (if you’re not sure where that is, find North Dakota and go north) I said yes, and spent seventeen years in the city nicknamed Winterpeg. Cold yes, but amazing people and a chance to experience a part of my country I wouldn’t have otherwise.
We eventually moved back to Ontario, and my husband got the sailing bug. When he suggested we move on to the boat and sail south to the Caribbean…why not? We spent five years that way, including the Covid pandemic, and from all I’ve heard, we had a better experience than most.
Other things?
When a friend suggested we should train for a marathon, I said yes. I have photos to prove I crossed the finish line, slow but sure. I entered a contest with Harlequin back in 2016, because why not? Worst they could do was say no. I ended up writing ten books for them, most while on the boat. When Harlequin wasn’t interested in more hockey books, and that’s what I wanted to write, why not try self-publishing? I’ve now written 4.5 books in the Toronto Blaze series, with Playoff being the most recent.
The next why not? Moving to France – by the time you read this, we’ll be living there.
I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve also enjoyed some incredible things by saying Why not, instead of Why. Part of that is because of privilege I enjoy, I realize, but if you have the chance, and the risk isn’t too great, why not?
Playoff: A Hockey Romance

I play in the NHL and I’m good, but there’s an asterisk by my name – my parents left Canada ten years ago with money they’d stolen in a Ponzi scheme. Being traded from LA to Toronto is the last thing I wanted, since I know that history is going to be revived again. My first night in the city, before the trade is announced, I have an anonymous hookup with an interesting woman – except she’s not who I thought she was.Jess
Our lives blew up when my parents lost all their money in a Ponzi scheme. My twin brother bore the brunt of it, giving up his college dreams to play in the NHL to play, and things did not go well. When the son of the people that stole from us is traded to my twin’s team, I know things are going to be bad. But it’s a shock when I meet him and find out it’s not the first time.
