Sunday Snippet: The Cover Reveal & A Real Snippet Edition
It’s been a writing week, mes amis. Liz and I went on retreat and we wrote words–lots of words! We also processed stories and okay, we had a little wine and a little chocolate and we enjoyed a hair & history day where we got our washed and blown out and visited some of the historical sites around Galena, Illinois. It’s a lovely town, full of history, shops, and beautiful trees and hills. The perfect place for a writing retreat. Today, a new week begins and since I’ve started book 3 in the Juniper Falls Ranch series, this feels like a good time to reveal the cover for book 2,…

Authors on The Road Day 2
Day 2 from beautiful Galena, Illinois. Liz here… We slept pretty well last night, considering we weren’t in our own beds. We do have those fireplaces in our rooms, which have a lovely mesmerizing affect. At least until the timer goes off and the fire goes out. We were up pretty early this morning, ramping up our word counts and talking about what we would do this afternoon and what we needed to do with our works-in-progress. Oh, and we ate some stuff. And drank some stuff. And talked some more. This is the exciting, dramatic stuff writing retreats are made of. We had a good late lunch at Durty…

Sunday Snippet: The Authors on the Road, Fall Edition
Despite last week saying I never know what day of the week it is, I actually do know it’s Sunday today, mainly because I’m writing the Sunday Snippet. But also because Liz and I are headed out for our fall writing retreat this morning. We’re headed to Galena, Illinois. Do you guys know that town? We’ve never been there before, which is part of the fun of going, and we have sister PJ and BIL to thank for the accommodations. They’re letting us use their condo. It looks pretty luxurious and has an indoor pool! (That’s the magic word for me, and graciously, Liz goes along with me, even though…

Well, the release of Forever Cowboy, my very first western/cowboy romance is a month away. I’m excited, nervous, proud, and more than a little anxious to share this book with you! I took a giant step out of my small-town Indiana box to write this one, and although Forever Cowboy is still my own brand…

Sunday Snippet: Day 5.5 Montana: Exploring Big Sky
Carol here, once again taking over Nan’s blog. We stayed local yesterday and started with Nan’s favorite vacation tradition–a shampoo and blow dry at the Hair Ninja. Leah was not only a terrific hair stylist (she calls herself a “hairapist”) but an excellent source of information about the area. Like many resort towns, Big Sky sees frequent turnover in local business staff and shortages in some critical fields, like medicine. The year-round population of 3000 quadruples in the winter months. However, housing prices are high, so skiers and snow boarders find it difficult to settle in the area for long. Some restaurant menus change year-to-year as chefs don’t return. There…

Sunday Snippet: The Pure Joy Edition, Plus A Real Snippet!
It’s been hot and sultry here in the Midwest–temperatures in the nineties every day with humidity to match. T-storms come out of nowhere, shower us for a few minutes, and then the blazing sun returns to make the atmosphere even more heavy. It’s hard to even catch your breath outside. Except for morning or evening walks with my neighbor, I mostly stay inside in the AC and work and write. I set a goal each morning–this many pages done on an editing gig or this many words written today. I pretty much accomplish whatever goal I set. I mean, after all, when it’s too hot to be outside in the…

Sunday Snippet: The It’s an Actual Snippet Today Edition
So, it’s been a week. Lots of editing work, a small amount of writing, and lots of yard work. My brain is tired and my old body is screaming at me, “WTH??” So today you get a real snippet from my upcoming novel, Forever Cowboy, which will be book 4 in the special Bad Boys of the Rodeo series that will be releasing each week all through September 2025 from Tule Publishing’s Montana Born imprint. Mine comes out September 25. It’s been such a treat to participate in this special series with four other authors, Sinclair Jayne, Nicole Flockton, and Jeanie Watt. It’s my first time writing in Montana and…
