8-Sentence Sunday

wewriwa_square_2Annnndddd…we’re back with a new Weekend Writing Warrior’s 8-Sentence Sunday post. I’ve decided to take you all along as I start my new Women of Willow Bay novel, so who knows where we’ll end up. This week, I’m giving you the first 8 sentences of the new book. So here’s the setup: We met our heroine in Sex and the Widow Miles–she’s Sarah Everett, the woman who ran the Chicago resale shop in the battered women’s shelter where Julie volunteered. Remember tough little red-headed Sarah, who went toe-to-toe with a gun-toting abuser? Six years ago, she escaped her abusive husband and ran away to Chicago, where she now manages the resale shop that’s attached to the shelter. Her story starts here:

The car was still there.

Idiot.

Did he really think a black Lincoln Town Car with heavily tinted windows wasn’t going to be noticed in this neighborhood? He may as well be sitting there in a neon yellow Hummer.

Asshole.

Sarah Everett sighed deeply as she locked the door to La Belle Femme and turned the sign over to Closed.

Mack, the night watchman appeared from the back, a big grin on his lined face. “All done for the day, Sarah?”

Intrigued? I sure hope so! Comments are welcome and encouraged and please don’t miss the other Weekend Writing Warriors.   Head on over and check out the work of dozens of other writers. You’ll be so glad you did!
