8-Sentence Sunday

wewriwa_square_2Can you believe it’s a new 8-Sentence Sunday? Where is the time going? I’m deep into Book 3 of the Women of Willow Bay series–Sarah’s as-yet untitled story. I’m open to suggestions by the way. Setup is the same as last week–Sarah is closing up La Belle Femme, the resale shop she manages at a women’s shelter in Chicago. A mysterious limo has been parked outside each evening for the past couple of days and she and Mack, the nightwatchman are wondering…

“Yup,” Sarah returned the smile—Mack was a sweetheart. She switched off all the lights except the can lights over the front window and locked the register as he looked on, waiting to escort her up the stairs to her apartment above the shop.

La Belle Femme, a resale shop, was connected by a courtyard to the women’s shelter that it served. Mack was a retired Chicago police officer, who walked the halls and stairwells of the shelter every night, keeping vigilant watch over the women and children staying there. It wasn’t Mack’s habit to escort her upstairs every night after closing, but he’d been particularly attentive since the limo had shown up a couple of days ago.

Sarah gathered up her keys, cell phone, and laptop as Mack wandered over to peer out the front window, standing sideways so as not to be seem by anyone out on the street.

“Still out there, I see.” He shook his head.
