8-Sentence Sunday

Happy 8-Sentence Sunday, Mes Amies! I’m continuing the meet-cute  scene between Sophie and Ben from my no-longer-untitled third Women of Willow Bay novel (title reveal coming up). Freelance editor Sophie Russo and author Ben Dugan have just seen each other for the first time after working together for over ten years. All their communication has been via email and telephone, so when Ben arrives in Willow Bay, Michigan to rent one of Sophie’s summer cottages in order to finish his novel, it’s their first face-to-face meeting. It’s the night before he’s due, and clad in jammies, wearing no makeup, and with her hair tossed up in a ponytail, Sophie’s slipped back over to his cottage to make some last-minute preparations. He arrives early and she is completely flummoxed. In last week’s snippet, she’s already tripped into his arms…

“Sophie, stand still,” Ben pressed her to his chest. “Your foot’s caught in the strap; here, hold on a sec.”

She gripped his shoulder as he grabbed her knee and lifted. “Okay, shake your foot,” he ordered, and when she did, first the bag and then Ben released her.

“Hello,” He gave her a grin, “I can’t believe I’m finally here.”

Shock kept her from guarding her tongue, “What are you doing here? You aren’t due until tomorrow.” Stepping away, she found herself very aware of his broad shoulders, the clean male scent of him.

No one should look and smell so good after flying all day.

So the working title for this one is The Summer of Second Chances. The theme of the book is second chances—for all the characters, not just Sophie and Ben. You’ll also get to peek in on Carrie and Liam from Once More From the Top, as well as Jules and Will from Sex and the Widow Miles. Other secondary characters from the first two books turn up in The Summer of Second Chances as Sophie finds settling into her new life in Willow Bay a bit more challenging than she expected.
